If this sounds familiar, know that you don’t have to navigate it alone. My goal is to offer you a space that’s safe, trustworthy, and free of judgment. Meet Courtney Cohen, LMHC,
Licensed Psychotherapist

As a licensed mental health counselor in New York State, I specialize in guiding adults and teens through the rough patches of life. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, trauma, or those big life transitions that throw you off balance, I’m here to help you regain control.

In our sessions, you’ll gain practical tools as well as a deeper understanding of the behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we’ll create a space where you can explore new ways of living—free from the anxiety, self-doubt, and inner criticism that have been weighing you down.

My therapeutic approach is integrative and tailored to your unique needs. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic techniques, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I tailor our work together based on what resonates most with you. I’m passionate about providing LGBTQ+ affirming care to ensure you feel seen, respected, and understood.

If anything here resonates with you, I’d love to learn more about your story. Reach out today for a complimentary 30-minute phone consultation, and together we’ll start building the life you’ve always wanted.

MY THERAPY STYLE

Starting therapy can feel intimidating—trust me, I get it. ust walking through that door takes courage, vulnerability, and strength. Therapy is about honoring that strength while making space for any fears that might arise. We’ll work together to build a compassionate environment where you can explore the path to a more fulfilling life. Think of therapy as something you can try out—like anything in life, you won’t know if it’s a fit until you give it a chance. As we build our relationship, we’ll tailor our sessions to what feels right for you—no cookie-cutter approach here.

The most inspiring moments come when my clients recognize the strength and resilience they’ve had within them all along. Throughout the therapeutic process, you’ll be tapping into these strengths to help you reach your goals. My job is simply to help you harness what’s already there. Witnessing those moments of awareness and insight is not only empowering for you but also fuels my passion for this work every day. It’s a privilege to be part of your journey toward a happier, more fulfilling life.

My style is active and collaborative. We’ll explore both current and new ways of thinking and living together. But how much I participate will vary depending on what works best for you, and we’ll discuss this early on in our work together. After all, this is your space, and it’s important that it serves your needs.

Sometimes, it can be really helpful to bring the work we do in sessions into your daily life. In those cases, I might suggest activities to deepen your awareness of the topics we’ve been discussing. Typically, these are focused on raising awareness and reinforcing the insights we’ve uncovered together.

The therapeutic relationship is one of the more important parts of therapy, and I believe in being authentic and genuine with my clients. While therapy is different from the relationships we have with friends or family, I might share aspects of my own experience if it feels relevant and supportive to your growth. My goal is to create a space where you feel supported and understood.

Each person brings a unique perspective to the room, shaped by their experiences and background. Even when clients share a similar background, I approach each individual with an open mind, ready to listen and learn from your story. It’s about understanding your world, asking questions, and never making assumptions. My goal is to create an environment where you feel truly seen and respected.
