"Wellness is your birthright, and healing is a revolutionary act."

You are here.  You’ve made it through this world so far- through thousands of days living in the layers of your identities, despite the oppression, the capitalism, and the global crises.  Your body is likely holding decades-worth of wounds and wisdom.  You are waiting to breathe…to rest… to grieve… to dream… to be seen in your fullness… to connect with yourself.

Our work together will be exactly that.  A space and time that centers your personal experiences, your family’s story, and your people’s pain and perseverance.  A space and time that recognizes how your identities shape how you experience the world.  A space and time in which you can be your full self.  You are worthy of that.

Meet Caryn Moore, LCSW,
LICENSED PSYCHOTHERAPIST

I am a licensed psychotherapist who works with individuals including adolescents and young adults in New York City and throughout New York state. I specialize in therapy for depression, trauma, LGBTIQA+, BIPOC, identity exploration, spiritual and existential concerns, and more.

Over the past fifteen years, life has allowed me to work with people from many different communities- from a blossoming neighborhood in Louisiana, to a migrant sanctuary in Egypt; from a harm reduction program in Los Angeles, to a haven for survivors of violence in Chicago.

Bearing witness to how people are harmed by and healed from difficult circumstances, in combination with my own lived experience, have deeply shaped how I practice as a trauma therapist. Hearing and holding another person’s story is a gift, and I listen with reverence.

I draw from a foundation of trauma training and liberation psychology. My therapeutic approach blends Relational-Cultural Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I also provide Eye Movement Desensitization + Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy for the treatment of trauma.

Together we’ll allow you to:

  • Heal, unburden and better understand the different parts of yourself
  • Explore how power and privilege (related to race, gender, sexuality, class, ability and more) manifest inside and outside of the therapy room
  • Love the younger versions of you who are carrying old hurts
  • Live a life where you feel sacred, full, free and focused
  • Explore how your body is both an avenue for understanding your story and how it can be a resource to you

I look forward to helping you to hear yourself again. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me today to schedule a complimentary consultation.

MY THERAPY STYLE

I do my best work when I focus on particular areas of healing, including: interpersonal, intergenerational, and institutional trauma; identity development and intersectionality; grief; capitalism fatigue; and existential concerns. I work well with teens and young adults who are open to and invested in exploring the above, inside and outside of therapy.

When I first meet with a client, I often ask what identities of theirs they would like me to know about and what identities of mine they would like to know about. I do this because I believe that my training is only one of the lenses that helps me to understand and work with people.

My personal experiences also inform me, and I think about how my identities might be helpful or a limitation in our work together. I am intentional about not burdening clients with the responsibility of teaching me about the ways they’ve been oppressed, while also encouraging them to name when it feels like I’m not understanding the fullness of their experience.

Outside of the therapy room, I engage in ongoing efforts to unlearn all the “isms” I’ve been socialized to believe, while also steeping myself in the insight, theories, and practices of people from marginalized groups.

The best part of the work for me is the glimmering moments of connection- those moments when a client feels deeply understood by me and by themselves- that radiate throughout their relationships, decisions, and lives overall.
